About our West Futbol Academy
                                                                    West Futbol Academy

         US Club Soccer

 General information:

West Futbol Academy will register its players through US Club Soccer, which will not affect the player’s eligibility with their home club team.  This means the players will still be able to compete in the US Youth Soccer (MYSA) State Cup competition and advance to Regional and National Championships with Wayzata or Wings SC.

The Academy would hold tryouts for three teams in the first year of the Academy.  A pool of players will be selected for the U13 Girls and U13/14 Boys.  The Academy will roster up to a maximum of 26 players per team.  This will give the teams a large pool of players in case conflicts arise with the club teams.  The Academy will make sure that there are no conflicts between the players home club team and academy competitions.  Having a 26 player pool will help in eliminating conflicts.

West Academy will hold one to two pool training sessions a week that would be open to all players in the program.  The training sessions will be overseen by the two Academy Directors, Manny Sanchez and Tony Peszneker.

Teams will compete in the US Club Regional (Boise, Idaho July 5-8, 2008) and National Championships (July 26-29, 2008) if they advance.  They may also attend other high level events as scheduled by the Directors. All pool players will also attend a mini-camp (3-4 days) prior to attending the Regional Tournament.

Rationale:

In bringing Wayzata and Wings together and creating the West Futbol Academy, it would bring together two of the top clubs in Minnesota, working together with the same vision.  This goal would be to give the top players in the two clubs an opportunity to train with other top level players, attend high profile events that otherwise would not be possible and get top-notch training in an environment that would be conducive to player development. This includes opportunities for our players to continue to grow without having to leave their current teams to be part of this new and exciting program. Another benefit would be the ability to pool our professional coaches and creating highly competitive teams for regional and national championships.

The West Academy would fill any void that been present when players have departed to other clubs that have offered an academy environment and competition.  The fact that the players will still be part of their club and not affect the local association teams is a big positive.  This could be a first step of bigger things in the future as we bring together the fragmentation of youth soccer in MN

Registration Through US Club Soccer:

As a member of US Club Soccer, Wings SC can start an Academy with out affecting it current teams.  The flexibility that they offer is important in the development of the players.  You can roster up to 26 players on each team and players can play up in age groups and back down to their own age.  This flexibility is not available through US Youth Soccer (MYSA).

Registration fees for the 2007/2008 seasonal year due to US CLUB Soccer are as follows:

  • COMPETITIVE PLAYERS;  $16/player
  • STAFF/COACHES:  $10/staff

The registration fee is all inclusive, and includes secondary medical and liability insurance.  Fees for registering coaches and other staff include the cost of risk management checks.  Each coach or manager with direct contact with a team (players U20 and below), or on the team bench must have a passcard and complete a risk form annually.  A coach needs only one passcard to coach any team within the club.

For 2007/2008, there are no additional fees for other services, such as tournament, league, or other competition sanctioning.  No travel permissions are required at any time.

Tryouts:

The West Academy will hold tryouts as listed below for all interested players in each age group from the Wayzata Soccer Club and Wings Soccer Club:

1.      U13 Girls, Saturday, April 12, 2008

2.      U13/14 Boys and U14/15 Girls, Tuesday, April 15, 2008

The tryouts will only be open to Wayzata and Wings SC players that are currently playing C1 or Premier.  The Academy Directors have the option to invites C2 players from their club if they feel that they have an opportunity to make the training pool.  If any players from other clubs want to join the Academy teams they must first register with one of our two clubs.

Uniforms:

Since both of clubs are with Adidas, we would wear Adidas uniforms.  The Academy team colors will be Orange and White.  The Academy Directors will try to secure the best possible deal for the uniforms through Adidas or local retailer.  There will also be an opportunity to get sponsorship to off-set the cost since US Club Soccer allows advertisement in front of uniforms unlike MYSA.
